When did SUP become more then just a hobby for you? When I came addicted. The new movements and challenge in the ocean and flat water made me feel good and I wanted to keep that closer to me that the 'occasional' hobby. Why did you choose Starboard? We chose each other ;-) Tell us about your quiver? / Which board is your favorite? My quiver is 8'5" Tiki; who is perfect for me in the waves and a 14' 8" Point to Point who lets me do long down winders. In Holland I have my K15; perfect canal cruise and off course SUP 11-City board. On the Dutch coast I have an 9'0" Stinger; which is a very fun and divers board for the Dutch waves. I have some 'in between sizes' coming my way; 9'8" more longboard style SUP and a 10" Whopper where I can take friends out on (easy learner board) and I can also put my windsurfing sail on it! SUP has given you the chance to travel the world. Out of all travels, which one has been the most memorable? My most memorable SUP trip is for sure my Starboard trip to Peru. I caught the longest waves while being with a very divers and super fun group of fellow team riders! Besides using our own boards, we tested and switched out the 2010 SUP boards; from the new Tiki 8'0" (by 26) to some of the 9'8" boards. Who do you respect in SUP? Everyone who respects and appreciates others (also fellow-surfers in the line up), the ocean, the moment and themselves. What are your 5 most played songs on your IPod? I shuffle mostly on my Ipod. Everything comes by that way... techno- dance, classical, punk-rock, chill out, cruisy tunes; it's a big variety. What inspires you? I find inspiration in almost everything. my first cup of coffee of the day, a sunrise, a beautiful wave, ocean skills performed by others I can learn from. an opportunity to share the sport and stoke, a smile from a stranger, enthusiasm in general, people who live their dream, a beautiful story sent by email from a friend, the element of surprise and flexibility, straight forwardness and 'pureness' of a child, somebody taking their first wave, somebody smiling after paddling their first SUP strokes... What's your biggest accomplishment in 2009? I organized my first event; the SUP 11-City Tour in the Netherlands. What are your goals for 2010? To organize my 2nd Annual 'SUP 11-City Tour 2010, - To travel to a new country with my ocean toys, - To share my stoke and inspire others by playing together, by participating in events, 'live' clinics, articles and video clips, and much more. - To cross the Molokai-Oahu channel solo, - to paddle SUP with more technique, more power, more flow and a big smile. |
